Who We Are

Forerunner Playwrights’ Theatre has recently handed the reins of the company to Keelin Jack and Margaret Legere. Both artists live and work in Halifax, and have been members of the team a number of times. We are glad to facilitate the beginning of this new venture for Forerunner.

Keelin graduated from the University of St Andrews and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and then hurried home to plant her roots firmly back in home soil. A native of Truro, Keelin has been working as an actor | director | writer | educator | administrator | Jack of All Trades in the Halifax theatre scene and beyond since 2006, with companies including Neptune Theatre, LunaSea Theatre, The Doppler Effect, The Villian’s, Shakespeare by the Sea, Us VS Them, DaPoPo Theatre, OneLight Theatre, the Atlantic Film Festival, and the East Coast Music Association. Originally fiercely dedicated to classical theatre, Keelin has participated in the growth of new plays in a variety of stages – ideas, collective creations, workshops, rewrites, readings, productions – and has come to revel in the thrill of creating something new. Keelin enjoys work that is bold, thoughtful, sincere, well crafted, and just a little bit weird – and she can’t wait to make it with Forerunner.

Margaret is a director | actor | playwright. She graduated from the Dalhousie Acting Program, and has trained extensively with, and is a member of, The Irondale Ensemble Project. Margaret co-founded Loosen the Noose Productions and facilitated the production of three original plays and a book of works by local artists. She has worked with many theatre companies in Halifax and Toronto including OneLight Theatre, The Doppler Effect, Two Planks and a Passion, Plutonium Playhouse, The Lions Den, The Villain’s, Shakespeare by The Sea, Us VS Them, Socratic Theatre Society, and WORKhouse Theatre, and is a member of The Bus Stop Theatre Cooperative. Margaret has three plays in various stages of development: Sasha and Bills Suicide Pact, Leaves of The Virgin Mary, and You Really Are Doomed. Having worked as an actor and director for Forerunner, she is honored to be continuing the development of the company.
